
Summer has just begun, so why not make the best of it? After a long week of work, cool your heels off on the weekend with a refreshing summer cocktail.
We’ve put together a list of our favourite cocktails that’s perfect for the tropical season. Salut!
Tequila!
Ingredients:
5 small chunks watermelon
1 lime, chopped
15 ml. sugar syrup
45 ml. gold tequila
Apple juice
Ice cubes
Method:
Pound the watermelon, lime, and sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add a scoop of ice, then the tequila. Shake vigorously and strain it into a tall, chilled glass and top it with apple juice.
Woo Woo
Ingredients:
60 ml. vodka
15 ml. peach schnapps
Lime wedge
Cranberry juice
Ice cubes
Method:
Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Squeeze in lime, and then add the vodka and schnapps. Shake the mixture and strain into a glass half filled with ice. Add the squeezed lime wedge and top it up with cranberry juice.
Bahama Mama
Ingredients:
15 ml. Coconut Liqueur
15 ml. Coffee Liqueur
15 ml. each dark and white rum
Pineapple juice
Ice cubes
Crushed ice
Method:
Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add the coconut and coffee liqueurs and both rums. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass that’s half filled with crushed ice. Top it off with pineapple juice and garnish with pineapple wedge and mint leaves.
Mojito
Ingredients:
60 ml. white rum
8 mint leaves
Half a lime, chopped
15 ml. sugar syrup
Soda
Ice cubes
Method:
Pound the mint, lime, and sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add a scoop of ice, and then the rum. Shake vigorously and strain it into a chilled tumbler and top it up with soda.
Sangria
Ingredients:
1 Bottle white wine
Fruit slices such as peaches, berries, plums, and oranges.
120 ml Orange liqueur, juice or concentrate
Method:
Mix the sliced fruits and orange liqueur in pitcher; allow flavors to blend for at least one hour. Then, add the wine and serve.
Caribbean Rum Punch (servers 4)
Ingredients:
250 ml Golden rum
3 slices of pineapple, coarsely chopped
2 tsp sugar syrup
550 ml. pineapple juice
Crushed ice
Method:
Mix the rum, pineapple and sugar syrup in a 1.5-litre jug and let it stand for 30 minutes. Then, add the pineapple juice and stir well.
To serve, pour punch over crushed ice in tall glasses and serve immediately.
Purple Crush
Ingredients:
6 large purple grapes, plus 3-4 sliced for optional garnish
3 mint leaves, plus one sprig for garnish
30 ml. sugar syrup (or as per your liking)
30 ml. fresh lime juice
60 ml. rum
Method:
Place the grapes, mint leaves, sugar syrup, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker and muddle together. Then add rum and shake with ½ cup cracked ice. Strain into a glass, then top with fresh crushed ice and garnish with mint leaves.
If you like your drinks with a little bubbly add some soda and top your glass with grape slices.
